… offers the readers the following summary:

«Programme 1: More Human Than Human…
One image dominates our contemporary world above all others: the human body. "How Art Made the World" travels from the modern world of advertising to the temples of classical Greece and the tombs of ancient Egypt to solve the mystery of why humans surround themselves with images of the body that are so unrealistic.

Programme 2: The Day Pictures Were Born
The discovery of prehistoric cave paintings in the last century led to the shocking realisation that humans have been creating art for over 30,000 years. "How Art Made the World" reveals how the very first pictures ever made were created, and how images may have triggered the greatest change in human history.

Programme 3: The Art of Persuasion
The visual devices used by Tony Blair and George Bush to get themselves elected and maintain power, come not from modern times, but a world that is thousands of years old. "How Art Made the World" ventures back to the creation of Stonehenge and the reign of Alexander the Great to reveal how imagery became an indispensable weapon in every leader's political armoury.

Programme 4: Once Upon a Time
Each year over seven billion people across the world are drawn to see the latest feature films in the cinema. This episode reveals how the most powerful storytelling medium ever created exploits visual techniques invented by artists in the ancient world.

Programme 5: To Death and Back
Today in the 21.st century people see fewer real dead bodies than at any time in history. Yet in the modern world we seem almost obsessed with images of death. In an investigation encompassing ancient Jericho, Aztec America, and classical Italy, "How Art Made the World" discovers what it is that has compelled human beings to surround themselves with images of death for thousands of years.»

This is something I would love to see.

We do get BBC here but it's BBC Canada.

I'll check the listings.

Thanks!?

If I can catch it, maybe we can discuss about it?!

André disse...

Tenho visto a série! Pronto!

Hello, dear Joel! How are you?
You're welcome! The series has just started around here on Monday. It's really worth while watching it, and hopefully you'll be able to.
To discuss it would be a great idea indeed!
Wish you the best! :-)

RIC disse...

Ui... Ninguém é obrigado a nada, caro André!...

Sounds good. Will eventually catch it as such series are repeated so as to make it easy to catch. Snow storm last night...

Catching up on my links to other's sites. Doing a custom avitar for each persson. Waynes came out very nice and funny, i think.

RIC disse...

Hello Will! Snow storm in Seattle, and Ric with a cold in Lisbon... My throat aches as hell... Burning like fire!
The series is great, as you can imagine.
That's a good idea, Will! I wasn't feeling very comfortable being the only one there shining like Las Vegas neon lights... (Lol!) Moreover, I don't like LV. But I like the link!
Do a nice work, if you please! :-)

T-Bird disse...

Oh I did a good job for him. He is a charmer, and has a kind heart, and his art is pleasing to me. All irresistible traits, to my personal sensibilities. W/O a good heart, no amount of money (I am sooooo NOT impressed by blowhards bragging about money and position), power (ditto), looks, or talent compensates. The meek shall inherit the earth, so one should always seek them out and honor them.

Five inches of snow now. Just was outside. Kev is my next target. He said he fancies Kiwi fruits, but it must be a memorable image.

Sorry you are sick! Rest, relax, Vitamin “C”, and no smoking!!! Lemon and honey, too!

The Economist had an article on the history of preserved meats and it had a big section on Portugal and Cod.

I know you do not like these e-mail like posts. I have not done one for a long time and will not repeat this offense for a long time. Xoxox

Oh, finished my “It’s Raining Men” collage and posted it on my iste. The “Gay Street” sign came from Kevin.

RIC disse...

I had already checked your blog, Will, by the time you wrote this «e-mail»...
Thank you for that info on «The Economist». In a few years, codfish will be past history among us, I guess...
Careful with the snow! :-)

também me dói a garganta!

Agradeço do fundo do coração!
