A aula começa e a professora:
– Vamos lá ver quem sabe História americana. Quem disse: 'Dê-me a liberdade ou a morte'?
A professora grita. Quem foi que disse isso?!
E Suzuki novamente:
– Chupa-me o pau!
E a professora, irritada:
– Acabou-se! Quem disse isso agora?!
E Suzuki sem hesitações:
– Bill Clinton à Mónica Lewinsky, na Sala Oval da Casa Branca, em Washington, em 1997.
Então, outro aluno diz lá do fundo:
– Suzuki de m*rda!
E Suzuki responde:

Caíram-me no goto, é isso!... Rsrsrs!

My post on Enrique was influenced by seeing the Spanish castles on your previous post.

I guess that his looks must come from his mother rather than his father!

Olá Kevin!
Great to «hear» from you tonight! And it just comes my way, so to speak, that Spain and the Spaniards is still the subject. I just forgot to tell you that I didn't write «por sorpreso»; I wrote «por supuesto». I don't know whether or not this changes something in your point of view, but I thought I should mention it.
I was really surprised by that post of yours, only because it is somehow different from what I'm used at on your blog. I did like it very much!
Well, as to his looks, I bet you know who his mother is! My problem is that I really don't know... Oops... I guess I have to google that one...
Wish you a great weekend, dear Kevin!

Je te souhaite un bon weekend aussi. You are out of bed very early today. You must be drinking lots of 'bica'. It seems that you are on New Zealand time.

I'm glad you liked my post on Enrique. He is truely a 'typical' looking Spaniard in my opinion.

You did indeed write 'por supuesto' I am not sure how i wrote 'por sorpreso'. I think i was inventing a new pacific-euro language!!

Bom fim-de-semana para ti tambem o meu amigo (i think this is correct)

abraco,

Hello dear Kevin!
As a matter of fact I'm about to go to bed. It's almost dawn around here, but I can sleep until late in the morning since it's Saturday...
I thought you were thinking about some kind of surprise you might have come across in Spain... (Enrique?) Lol!
As to that last sentence, it is almost perfect, just a small detail: when you turn «o meu amigo» (which is the correct phrase either as SUB. or OBJ.) into a kind of vocative, you must drop the «o». So the whole sentence is (this time as a wish from me to you):

kevin disse...

Obrigado for your advice on my Portuguese. I thought that it was 50/50 as to whether i should place the 'o' there or not. I will remember that.

I hope you had a great sleep and now feel refreshed.

Boa dia,

RIC disse...

Hello dear Kevin!
You're absolutely right! I've slept for a few hours and here I am back in business!
As I'm writing these words to you, it's about 10:00 pm in New Zealand. Your Saturday is coming to an end... Mine has just begun... The antipodes - either mine or yours - are an odd place...
This time for a change it's me who has a question for you: which Zealand (Sealand) is meant in your country's name: the Dutch or the Danish? Or... neither?...
I wish you a delightful evening near a beautiful fire and a great Sunday!
As «dia» is masculine, you'll have to say «Bom dia».
You're always welcome, dear friend!
Love from Lisbon! :-)

(And now I'm setting off on a journey to Argentina: that's where I'll spend my Saturday in the company of the great, wondrous, fabulous, overwhelming musician Ástor Piazzolla! You'll see!...)

Grande Ric,

Quase me desfaço a rir! :-)
Um bom fim-de-semana para ti!

lampejo disse...

São sem dúvida duas anedotas engraçadíssimas...
Bom fim-de-semana.
Abraço!

RIC disse...

olá Lampejo!
Se elas te divertiram, fico muito contente!
Desejo-te um excelente domingo!
Um abraço!

kevin disse...

Thanks for telling me that dia is a masculine word. I knew that it was a irregular masculine in Spanish because it ends with 'a' which fools foreign speakers but i thought it might be only in Spanish that this happens.

I now know:
Boa=Feminine
Bom=Maculine

And 'dia' becomes Bom dia.

Your knowledge of even your own language impresses me.

I reckon that non-English speakers have would see the words 'I now know' and if they pronounced the words exactly as they look it would sound nothing like English eg. a silent k and the 'now' being pronounced totally different in both words. I will NEVER complain that other languages are difficult again!

abraco meu amigo (without the o meu ;)

I forgot to answer your question.

New Zealand was first SIGHTED by Abel Tasman, A Dutch explorer in the 1600's. He never landed here because of the small native population which were considered savages. He named the new land Nieuw Zeeland after the Dutch province in the Netherlands.

It wasnt until the late 1700's that Captain James Cook from Great Britain took the chance on landing in New Zealand. There were lots of conflicts between the British Government and the native people. After a couple of small wars peace was reached between the British Government and the native kings. This led to small and then increasing European migration from Britain from 1840's onwards.

Today we are a totally independent country nestled at the 'bottom of the world'. We are totally peaceful with our native and European populations. Our total population is now 4 million people. We have good relations with with ALL countries in the world including Europe, UK, Australia, China, Japan and South America. We have had a policy for the last 21 years where all our land and territorial waters are NUCLEAR FREE. That is to say that no nuclear powered aircraft, land craft or seacraft are permitted anywhere near us. This has angered USA who suspended us from their defence alliance in 1987 because of our 'irresponsible policies'.

However, we generally follow the European model for social issues with equal rights for women, ethnic groups and gay rights. Civil Unions are a right here for gay people and the government, business landlords and people are not permitted to discriminate again anyone on grounds of gender, age, ethnic identity, disability or sexual orientation.
Indeed our government MP's consist of 120 members and of those there are peoples who are ethnically diverse, women, diabled openly gay AND a transgender MP. We also have a muslim MP.
Our Head of State is Queen Elizabeth. She resides in London. She is on all our coins. We are a totally independent country.

So to cut a long story short, Our country name comes from the Netherlands but the name has been Anglicised. We indeed get a lot of visitors from Netherlands (as well as Germany, UK, Norway etc) and all are very very very welcome.

Olá Kevin, meu amigo!
Although it doesn't always work, the Latin gender is king among Romanic languages: «day» is «o dia», «el día» and «il di» in some Italian dialects because «die» in Latin was masculine. But then again, «sea» is «o mar», «la mar» and «il mare»... But Latin does help a lot.
As to my knowledge of Portuguese, that is my main academic ground, and I've taught it both to Portuguese and foreigners for more than twenty years, besides teaching German. And I still teach Portuguese quite regularly, mainly to foreigners.
As to spelling... Lord! English and French win it all! I think it was George Bernard Shaw who once wrote the word «fish» in such a way that after you'd read his explanation you'd feel compelled to say: «Yes, he's right, it could also be written that way...».
And Dr Johnson used to say that English is the only language in which you write London and read Constantinople... Lol!
... Which also means every language has its hard bones. None is totally easy or totally difficult...
Have a great Sunday, dear Kevin!
Um abraço! :-)

RIC disse...

... Oh my God! What a great summary of New Zealand's History! Congratulations, dear Kevin, and thank you so very much!
You do know how to put New Zealand «on the market» in a touristic manner! Quite attractive, I'd say!
So it was the same Dutch sailor who arrived at Tasmania, that bears now his name. It's so curious: the Dutch have also been everywhere in the world: New York was first called Nieuw Amsterdam (Brooklyn is a town in Holland called Breukelen), and your country's first name was Nieuw Zeeland (being Zeeland a southern Dutch province by the North Sea). To pronounce it in Dutch: the «z» is the same, the «ee» is like the French «é», the «a» is like the british in «path», and the «d» at the end always silences to «t». There you have it!
As to some other details about New Zealand, I had already done my «homework» a few months ago, ever since we've started being blogger friends... I hate being in the dark!... Lol!
Thank you so very much, dear friend! It will be also quite interesting for other blogger friends to read, I'm sure!
Um abraço! :-)

You're very welcome.

I had no idea that you was actually a teacher of Portuguese to foreigners. It must be so interesting.

You sound like a true European.

To speak English, French Spanish, Portuguese AND German is a true accomplishment i believe.

... Vielen herzlichen Dank, mein lieber Freund! Für dich auch!
As to my «languages score» (Lol!), there's a small detail needing correction: I do NOT speak Spanish because I've never learned it the right way. I read and understand it, that's all. But I've learned a bit of Italian instead (in Belgium, as a matter of fact...), I've studied Dutch at the University (alongside German), I had a Swedish lover who taught me «Swedish for lovers to use in bed» (Lol!!!), and I tried Finnish, but the relationship didn't last long enough for me to learn...er... anything interesting... (Lol!!!)

Rsrsrs!
Abraço, meu caro! :-)
Cumprimentos para o Déjan! (Já falta pouco! Aguenta-te! Rsrs!)
