I. Rainer Maria Rilke (4)

Archaischer Torso Apollos

und flimmerte nicht so wie Raubtierfelle;

Archaic Torso of Apollo

We cannot know his legendary head
with eyes like ripening fruit. And yet his torso
is still suffused with brilliance from inside,
like a lamp, in which his gaze, now turned to low,

gleams in all its power. Otherwise
the curved breast could not dazzle you so, nor could
a smile run through the placid hips and thighs
to that dark center where procreation flared.

Otherwise this stone would seem defaced
beneath the translucent cascade of the shoulders
and would not glisten like a wild beast's fur:

would not, from all the borders of itself,
burst like a star: for here there is no place
that does not see you. You must change your life.

I send warm condolences from far away, to all heart’s that grieve this loss.

And I sent my Rose. I always notice, and feel honored that it us used by you on such occasions.

RIC disse...

Hello Will! Well, I guess I'll have to say I'm sorry once again.
I didn't mean to use them on «such occasions» only. It just happened.
I have those photos in a special file I've opened only for the most beautiful photos of Nature I ever come across. And your Rose is definitely one of the most beautiful I've ever seen. They are unique indeed.
Thank you so very much! A friendly word does mean a lot...
Enjoy your Sunday!

I hope you are having a good weekend.

RIC disse...

Hello Kevin! It is, isn't it? Well, being Apollo, his statue couldn't look differently, could it? Most certainly not if it was sculpted by a Greek.
My weekend is going by peacefully, thank you. Hope yours too.
Best wishes!

Caro Ric

(rsrsrs!)
Obrigado! Um abraço!
