II. «Sunset Boulevard»

One of my few cult movies…
I remember I was still quite young when I watched it on TV for the first time. And I won't ever forget it was my mother who called my attention to it: «Watch this one tonight. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.» How did she just know?...

My heartfelt homage to the great Billy Wilder and the absolutely magnificent Gloria Swanson.

«Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close‑up…»

Carol Burnette used to do an impersonation of that woman [Norma Desmond]. That gal was soooo crazy. LOL Actually I still do a pretty good Norma Desmond impression myself :)

E a expressão facial vem, é claro, do cinema mudo.
Abração, meu caro! :-)

Oh I do believe you do, Kb!... I'm sure you've got all it takes to walk nice and gentle that hall of fame...
Carol Burnette is great! I love her «faces» and her «voices»!
Thanks a lot!

Um filme, para todo (bom) cinéfilo ver!

Bom fim-de-semana :-))

De acordo a 100%!
Para ti também, Carla, um bom fim-de-semana! :-)

It's another world, another time. One of those few fims I can see over and over again: her performance justifies it entirely. :-)

Oi, Ric.

Unfortunately I haven't seen it yet, but it really looks like a movie I would enjoy. I need to see it soon.

Boas eleições!

Hallo Rian! I guess that's one of the problems nowadays: we can use so many different technological «things» that we can «spend» our days in an eternal present. Things of days gone by just get forgotten. I would strongly advise you to watch this film as soon as possible! It is exceptional indeed! Enjoy it! :-)

Frigging great cult classic.

This weekend was a Shostakovich Cello Concerto (last movement of 1st and 1st movement of 2nd).

Finally saw Brokeback Mountain which I have been avoiding. It cut far to close to memories buried in my crypt. Ended up crying off and on all afternoon.

Finanly went for a hike in the woods and that took my mond off the film.

Hope all is well with you.

Will

PS: Barber is wonderful. Shostakovich loved his compositions which is how I first heard his work. I believe Barber was gay. Same with Benjamin Brittin (friend of Dimitri and also gay).

RIC disse...

Hello Will! Thank you very much for the details of your weekend.
Here in Lisbon a celebration of Shostakovich is about to start just a few hundred meters of my place. I'm sure it's going to be great!
As for Brokeback Mountain, I'm still writing a text I began right after watching the movie. But the story disturbed me so much that every time I try to write again... I just melt in tears. That incommunicability among all characters and between the two of them just freezes me to death...
Thank you for your attention! I'm getting along...
Wish you all the best! :-)
