I. «Morocco» (1930)

Amy Jolly: "Every time a man has helped me, there has been a price. What's yours?"
La Bessière: "My price? A smile."
Amy Jolly: "I haven't got much more."

"Morocco" is a 1930 film in which a Foreign Legionnaire meets and falls in love with a sultry seductress.
The movie was adapted by Jules Furthman from the novel "Amy Jolly" by Benno Vigny.
It was nominated for Academy Awards for "Best Actress in a Leading Role" – Marlene Dietrich – who, amazingly, knew little English, and spoke her dialogue phonetically, "Best Art Direction", "Best Cinematography" and "Best Director" – Josef von Sternberg.
The movie was notorious in its day for a woman-to-woman kiss.
It has been deemed "culturally significant" by the Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry.

I'm sure you've all watched this piece of jewellery of the Seventh Art.
In case you haven't – just in case – I urge you to run to the nearest rental place, to take it to the tranquillity of your home, and to watch it with the devotion this wondrous screen couple deserves.
And then, the appealing desert is the stage… Bare feet walking on sandy dunes… Eroticism at its best…

A febre deixa-me sempre prostrado e só consigo sentir-me melhor se dormir...

I'm running!?

I'm running!?

Hello Joel! All I can wish for is that you may enjoy this film as much as I enjoy it myself everytime I watch it...
Have a great day!

Gray disse...

An absolutely delightful movie! I haven't seen it (even on my satille dish) for quite some time, unfortunately.

I've always enjoyed Marlene Dietrich and Gary Cooper! But, one man (whom you mentioned) - Adolphe Menjou - has alway intrigued me as well. He has acted in some fascinating movies!

RIC disse...

Hello dear Gray! Yes, you're quite right about Adolphe Menjou, a quite intriguing actor, I'd say...
I still remember my mother and some friends of hers talking about him... I'd be a kid by then...
Marlene and Gary are just fabulous in this film... She was fascinating, and he had still that boyish look... Can you believe it - 76 years ago?! Lord!...
Thanks a lot!
Hope you're getting along just fine! (Oh yes, no green things at home! Lol!) :-)

Minge disse...

I used to fantasise about Gary Cooper f**king me.

RIC disse...

Lol&lol&lol&lol!!!
It took me a few minutes to be able to watch screen and keyboard again, dear Minge! Thank you so very much for the wondrous laughs I just had!...
You are fabulous indeed! I only hope you don't think you have the exclusive of that fantasy! Lol!
Oh I have so many more!... It's my so-called «inner cinema»... I'd get lots of Oscars for it, I guess... Lol!
Keep the spirit! :-)

Minge disse...

Ric, you have beans to spill!

RIC disse...

I believe you mean I should speak about it, tell about those fantasies, don't you?...
Well, let's see... I may take your «advice» (lol!) into consideration...
Oh that would be really fantabulous, no doubts about it...
(You're such a teaser!...) :-)

Minge disse...

Yes, I want you to bare all, figuratively, of course, though feel free to take that literally if you do so desire.

RIC disse...

I'm now wondering about what «Kirill» may have brought about in Scotland... Lots of snow, for a start. What else?... Please, don't...
:-)

Minge disse...

My lips are sealed!

Still waiting for you to spill those beans, Ric!

RIC disse...

I'm leaving those «beans» for a forthcoming post. I want to walk that line in style. I'm sure you'll agree...
:-)

Minge disse...

Yes, I do. Looking forward to it!

RIC disse...

Great! I'll do my best!
:-)

Minge disse...

Can we expect such deliciousness soon?

RIC disse...

I really cannot say, Minge. I don't know yet what kind of pretext and context I'll have to come up with to make something at least not tasteless... You'll know all about it though in due time.
:-)

Minge disse...

Really, I cannot wait. I don't know how to control myself meanwhile.

Don't worry, Ric, nothing you could come up with would ever be described as tasteless.

RIC disse...

Thank you, Minge, for your kind words, again! But I do know myself. And some times I can be very... tacky, which I abhor...
Self-control is imperative these days, dear friend... I'm so sorry!...
:-)

Minge disse...

Tackiness is not necessarily tasteless, mon ami!

RIC disse...

... And why didn't you add an example, dear Minge? Just to try and convince me...

Minge disse...

The works of John Waters, or even, dare I say, Rumours Of Whores!

RIC disse...

Right! Okay, you did convince me.
It takes a great deal of intelligent humour to do something like that. I don't think I would ever be able of doing something like it. It's just not me, you know?
:-)

Minge disse...

That's as maybe. Perhaps you're above perfection?

RIC disse...

If you mean that I'm a perfectionist, that's true indeed. But I don't think - I'm sure - I'm not above perfection at all. It's just not me, that's all.
:-)
