In this sense it is quite impressive, and if you're afraid of heights you're strongly advised not to go near the place where you get the perspective shown in the first photo...
But it's an odd situation indeed that artists aren't a bit more careful as far as «likeness» between works is concerned...
Thank you, Bruce!RIChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13504864950306777236noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31125887.post-1160822866548132782006-10-14T11:47:00.000+01:002006-10-14T11:47:00.000+01:00Ric,Krén's installation seems more than just "insp...Ric,

Krén's installation seems more than just "inspired" by Rachel Whiteread's Holocaust memorial in the Judenplatz in Vienna. It seems to ba almost a case of plagerism. I think the term is, in fact, appropriate since we are dealing with art which is essentially conceptual, and not formalist in orientation. The "idea" is basically the same as Whiteread's. That Krén's work is composed of real books and Whiteread's are sculptures of books is a difference, but not a particularly significant one. I'm surprised that the Gulbenkian Foundation sponsored such a clearly derivitive piece.

Since Krén is from Slovakia, he undoubtedly knows the Whiteread monument in Vienna, which is about 30 km. from the Slovak border.Brucehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07082939536876342094noreply@blogger.com
